Part 3: Food Guide

Hungarian Food = Paprika only? Nope, their food culture is so much richer than you think!

Top 3 food that you would have to try when you’re there!

  • Goulash
Goulash Soup is one of the national dishes of Hungary! It is a famous stew of meat (often chunks of lean beef) and vegetables such as tomatoes and potatoes, that is seasoned with paprika and other spices. It is often served with fresh white bread. Unlike most of the stews in Canada, Goulash is more of a thin broth but super flavourful. However, it is common for people to make a thicker version of beef goulash and enjoy them with rice.

  • Lángos
Lángos are ranked as one of the most popular street food! It is a deep-fried dough (yes, I guess it’s the similar idea as our famous Beavertail!) served with sour cream and cheese traditionally. Now there are a variety of choices for its toppings such as thick-cut paprika, bacon, sausage, onion, cabbage, and much more!

  • Molnár’s Kürtoskalács
What is Kürtoskalács? You might be not familiar with the name but you must’ve seen them on streets all over Europe before! These round, spiral pastry are made from wrapping the yeasted dough to a truncated cone shaped baking spit, and then roasting over charcoal. This gives the Kürtoskalács a thin and crispy surface while the inside is still soft and sweet. People often brush the surface of the pastry with melted butter and cinnamon or ground walnut!
